There is a way to exterminate a colony of ants when you do not know where it is. Combat bait is good for ants that do not like sugar. Terro is good for ants that go for sugar. Putting the bait by the hole will give the ants something that they think is food to take to their nest. The ants eat it and then take it to the ants in the nest. The bait is slow acting and this gives the ants time to take it to the nest before they die. This can take some time, depending on how many ants their are.
