Need good music equipment advice?

So I'm in a band and I'm very unhappy with the mic and the amp that we have been using since forever. Basically we've been singing out of a 50 buck karaoke mic and amp and I'd like to upgrade, and I'd like to know what is a very good microphone and amp with a good reputation. I'm looking for volume, and something that's not going to hide the timbre of my voice. It sounds like my voice is muffled even when I'm singing pretty loud and I'd like to exterminate that and have something much more full so I don't have to hold the mic so close b/c the mic I have doesn't pick up sound very well...I'd appreciate any help....Thanks
