Anyone that's volunteered abroad?

I'm interested in volunteering abroad- perhaps in orphanages in africa? I read something about it a while ago but can't remember where. Any ideas how you get into this kind of opportunity? I live in England and I'm 21 btw... of any of that's relevant. Thanks.
